Hobby: Quick and Dirty Bloodletters
Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of posts lately, I've been mostly painting and learning Infinity, with less time for actual gaming. In the mean time, I'm not wanting to lose my hobby bet with Obi, so it's about time to get to painting my Khorne Daemonkin! I've started off by cranking out my Bloodletters, and was pretty pleased with the results so far, so I figured it's worth sharing.
The painting was pretty straight forward, and I still need to do the blades (which will be airbrushed), and probably a matte varnish, but here are the steps I've taken so far:
- Primer with Army Painter Dragon Red
- Zenithial spray of Army Painter Pure Red
- Paint the horns, blade, and teeth black
- Paint the gold pieces with Retributor Armour
- Paint the tongue with Genestealer Purple
- Paint the teeth, nails and face markings with Rakarth Flesh
- Paint the sword grip with Mournfang Brown
- Glaze the whole model with Minwax Polyshades Mission Oak
8 steps seems appropriate for a Khorne mini. I'll be doing a few highlights before sealing the model with matte varnish, and the sword will be airbrushed from black through orange and yellow, then sponging with a little black to give it the hot iron poker look.
Retributor Armour is a godsend btw. It takes my old technique for painting Gold for my Black Legion from 5 steps to 2, 3 if I highlight it further with Liberator Gold. They cover like Vallejo Liquid Gold, but no pesky alcohol clean up! For large areas of brushed on gold I would probably still use the Liquid Gold since it goes on so amazingly smooth, but for things like trim and gold details, the new GW paints are amazing.
I won't lose this damn competition! With the bloodletters almost out of the way, I think I can quickly churn out the Flesh Hounds in a similar manner, then it's onto the Chaos Bikers, Bloodthirsters, Maulerfiends, Drake and Soulgrinder, mostly large miniatures that I feel like I can crank out fairly efficiently.
I'll hopefully be getting in a game against Geoff (InControl) on Friday, so I'll have a battle report at the very least coming soon... An epic showdown of my Khorne Daemonkin against his War Convocation!
